Impressions from a Lost World: The Discovery of Dinosaur Footprints

Edward Hitchcock's "Ichnology of New England"

Hitchcock’s Ichnology of New England was published in 1858, the culmination of nearly 25 years’ work. Dr. Bakker uses Hitchcock’s illustration of the anomoepus’ back feet and forefeet (or hands) to show that Hitchcock was aware of the mix of avian and reptilian characteristics in the creature that made the footprints, later identified as dinosaurs.
