Dexter Marsh's Gravesite

zoomable artifact image here

Dexter Marsh was buried between his first wife, Rebecca, who died young, and second wife, Eunice, who lived to be 96. Daughters Emogene and Ella were buried alongside them in the Federal Street Cemetery in Greenfield, Massachusetts. Dexter's simple stone has been broken for many years. In the only diary entry we know of from Eunice, she wrote that she had put a willow tree over Dexter's grave soon after he died, but the tree is long gone. Willows were a symbol of mourning commonly used in New England graves during this period.
