A toad found in a wine cellar in England was placed under a bottle and forgotten about for a year. At that time, the toad was discovered alive and, as an experiment, was placed under a bottle annually for 25 years, and supposedly was discovered alive each time. The hibernation abilities of toads was a topic of considerable scientific curiosity during this period. This article is an example of what Dexter Marsh or James Deane might have gleaned from their local newspaper.
